Historical Approaches to Vocal Pedagogy

About Historical Approaches

Even with the impressive modern advances in voice science and vocal pedagogy, there is still much to learn from revisiting historical treatises and methodologies. In this section, we’ll explore significant writings from eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth-century voice teachers. You might be surprised at how advanced these pioneers were in their understanding of the vocal mechanism, despite lacking the technology we have today. Nineteenth-century vocal pedagogues, in particular, left us a treasure trove of training regimens capable of building the voice to truly athletic proportions.
